MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Living with a chronic illness like multiple sclerosis is an ongoing process of discovery—discovering new boundaries, new rhythms, new ways of being. It takes a lot of grit, but we can still have balanced, vibrant, and vital lives.

When we complement medical treatments with holistic wellness practices like Ayurveda and Yoga, we’re better able to ease this journey and give ourselves the strongest chance of keeping relapses at bay.

I manage my own multiple sclerosis diagnosis through modern medical science, ancient medical wisdom, and a whole bunch of community support. Here is a little glimpse into my journey.

DIAGNOSIS

Losing my eyesight in Italy, part one

On the 8th day of my 15-day Italian adventure, my left eye began to lose some sight. It’s like a slightly translucent black curtain has descended into my field of vision, only hints of impressions coming through the subtle rippling in the fabric.

Losing my eyesight in Italy, part two

In my last post, I traced the sources of inflammation that triggered my optic neuritis flareup and shared that it was up to the doctors to understand why my immune system was having this kind of reaction—demyelination—in response. Now we know why.
